Verizon announces Mobile TV service

Verizon Wireless announced details of its broadcast mobile TV service, powered by Qualcomm’s MediaFLO, which is to be named V CAST Mobile TV. Verizon has signed content deals with many of the world’s best-known entertainment brands, including CBS, Fox, MTV, Comedy Central, NBC News, NBC Entertainment and Nickelodeon, representing a variety of options for all types of TV viewers.

Working with its key partner, MediaFLO USA, a wholly owned subsidiary
of QUALCOMM Incorporated, Verizon Wireless expects to turn on the
service in major U.S. markets in the first quarter of 2007.

The company will launch the service with two new handsets, the Samsung SCH-u620 and the LG VX9400.
